Waste Water Recovery

100% of the run-off water generated during our composting process is collected and then reused, an important measure in a country and state wherein rainwater is, at times, a scarce and precious resource.

Energy Efficiency - Powered by Suntrix

We have installed an expansive network of Suntrix solar panels and inverters, as well as energy-efficient screen displays and other electronics, allowing us to greatly reduce our company’s dependence on non-renewable energy sources.

Integrated Recycling

The mushroom industry is the ultimate recycler. Mushroom food is made from wheat straw, poultry litter, other organic materials, gypsum and water. When carefully combined, they provide the perfect nutrient-rich medium for production of high-quality mushrooms.

Once the mushroom crop is harvested, the mushroom substrate goes back into the environment as a highly sought-after potting mix, garden mulch and soil conditioner which is ideal for any home garden, vineyard or market garden. The cycle is complete.

Sustainable Packaging

SA Mushrooms is rated as a Leading business in sustainable packaging by APCO, due to a number of outcomes from a recent sustainable packaging project.

As part of this project SA Mushrooms joined the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO) and implemented several actions to align the businesses current and future packaging with the National Sustainability Packaging Guidelines.

SA Mushrooms commitment to these guidelines can be seen on the 4kg cardboard boxes and lid, the first packaging option to feature the national Australian Recycling Label (ARL).

The label is used to help customers understand and dispose of the packaging in an environmentally responsible manner.

Other actions implemented by this project can be viewed via the businesses APCO Annual Report and Action Plan (Published Apco Annual Report And Action Plan)

This project was made possible by funding from the Federal Governments Entrepreneurs' Programme - Growth Grant.
